Campbell is a medium sized city in Santa Clara County, California. It has approximately seven neighborhoods and is the 206th largest community in the state. The city is located in the southern portion of the Santa Clara Valley. It is a family oriented and well-educated community that encourage educational endeavors. Over 51% of adults in the community have four-year degrees or more, well more than twice the national educational average for U.S. communities. The city is popular among younger educated professionals and urban sophisticates of all ages. It has a beautiful Mediterranean climate with mild winters and gorgeously warm summers. It is an extremely diverse neighborhood in terms of race, ethnicity, religion and more. The majority of residents identify as Caucasian, the next most common ethnicities are Asian and Hispanic. Common ancestries include German, Irish, English and Italian. It is a unique community were Nearly a quarter of the residents are foreign born individuals giving it a more global feel. English is the primary language in the community, followed by Spanish and Chinese. 

The city spans 5.89 square miles of land area and is a wealthy community according to both state and federal economic standards. It is a predominantly white-collar community, where over 88% of the workforce holds white collar positions. It has a convenient council-manager style of city government as is a thriving municipality. In 2017, the population was 41,544 and the population was around 7,000 people per square mile. Also, in 2017, the medium household income was $120,972 and the per capita income was $57,835. In the same year, the medium house or condo value in the city was over $1000,000, the mean price was also over $1,000,000 and the median gross rent was $2,192 monthly. According to the 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the city, the top five employers were Barracuda Networks Inc , Daley’s Drywall and Taping, Whole Foods Market, Safeway and Home Depot. The city features public transportation, but many residents still prefer to drive private vehicles for their daily commutes. 

Before the founding of the community, the area was inhabited by the native Ohlone people. Benjamin Campbell is credited with founding the city and the city bears his name in honor of his contributions. Campbell came to the area in 1846 and started a sawmill that was the areas earliest industrial endeavor. Benjamin purchased 160 acres, which today is the city’s historic downtown area. The first subdivision was established in 1887 and the first school district was established in 1888. Growth began to take off in the area in 1878, when Campbell sold land to the railroad for development and the railroad established easy travel in and out of the area. By 1892, the rail center was well established and became important in the shipping of fruits which were raised in the area. The city was officially incorporated in March of 1952. Today it is a bustling community and comfortable residential suburb of San Jose.
