Santa Clara is a large city in the California county of the same name. It has around 23 neighborhoods and is the 48th largest city in the state. It is popular among young upwardly mobile professionals, as well as executives and their families. It is even comfortable and convenient for those heading into their retirement years. Santa Clara is located in the center of the Silicon Valley and is the home of the Intel Corporation Santa Clara University, which is the oldest institute of higher learning in California. About 57% of adults in the city have four-year degrees or more, which is more than twice the national average for U.S. communities. It is the ninth most populous city in the San Francisco Bay area and is quite diverse in terms of race, ethnicity and more. There are large populations of European Americans, Asians, Hispanics and other ethnic groups. Common ancestries include German, Irish, Italian, English and Portuguese. Over 42% of residents of Santa Clara were born outside the United States. However, English remains the primary language in the city followed by Spanish and various languages of India. Santa Clara has repeatedly appeared on the Top 100 Places to Live list. Perhaps due in part to the fact that It is a clean and green community.

The city spans 18.41 square miles of primarily all land area. It is primarily a white-collar community where approximately 89% of the workforce is white-collar in nature. In 2017, the population was approximately 127,134, today the population is approximately 129,488. The population density is nearly 7,000 people per square mile. Also, in 2017, the estimated median household income was $115,375 and the estimated per capita income was about $47,824. In the same year, the estimated median house or condo value was over $1,000,000 and the mean price on all housing units was over $1,000,000 and the median gross rent was $2298 per month. In recent years the top five employers have been Applied Materials, Intel, California’s Great America, Avaya Inc. and Santa Clara City Hall. The city features both light rail and train service, as well as city busy service which is the most popular option.

The city was incorporated in July of 1852 and is named in honor of Saint Clare of Assisi. The city has a convenient council-manager style of city government. Uniquely, portions of the city are home to the rare burrowing owl. This species struggles and is therefore a species of concern for conservationist, due to loss of habitat to urban development. Summer months in Santa Clara are generally dry and warm. Rain for the area usually falls in the winter leaving the warm months much sunnier and more perfect for outdoor pursuits. Nineteen public schools of varying levels serve the community as well as a number of secular and non-secular private schools like Live Oak Academy, Saint Justin School, Stratford School and others.
