Saratoga is a medium-sized city in Santa Clara County, California. It has approximately six neighborhoods and is the 243rd largest community in the state. It is a popular community among professionals, growing families, retirees and more. It features quiet streets, low crime rates and plenty of green spaces and room to roam. They accomplish this a variety of ways, like telecommuting, home-based businesses and freelance endeavors. For those that must commute to work an average commute time is around thirty minutes. In 2017, the city’s population was 30,905 and the approximate population density was around 2,456 people per square mile. Also, in 2017, the estimated median household income in Saratoga was $193,041 and the per capita income was $ 88,744. In addition, in 2017 the estimated house or condo value was over $1,000,000, the mean price on all housing units was over $1,000,000 and the median gross rent was $2,732.
The area was originally inhabited by the native Ohlone tribes. In the mid-1800s European settlers arrived and began to edge the natives out of the area. Industries soon began to pop up in the budding community, such as a furniture factory, a grist mill, a tannery, a paper factory and more. It also became and remained an agricultural area that houses a number of wineries and vineyards as well as orchards. Today it primarily serves as a bedroom community of the Silicon Valley. The city was incorporated in October of 1956 and it is a clearly established general law city and a council-manager style of city government.
Saratoga is home to the Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards and the wonderful Mountain Winery which draw visitors from near and far. Local attractions include the Villa Montalvo Arboretum, the Montalvo Center for the Arts, Hakone Japanese Gardens, and Sanborn County Park, which spans over 3,500 acres.
